Mr. Willis was born and raised in Texas. He graduated from Baylor University in
1978 and then went on to graduate from the South Texas College of Law in Houston
in 1982. He then went to serve as an Attorney on the Texas Supreme Court
of Texas in Austin, Texas until 1984 when he began to practice
plaintiff's personal injury law in a Houston. In 1992, Willis founded Willis
& Associates, a personal injury law firm with a heavy emphasis in products
liability, maritime and industrial litigation.
Mr. Willis
has the distinction of being Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial
Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1988. This legal
certification by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization identifies an attorney
who has been recognized as having extensive knowledge and actual experience
trying a prescribed number of personal injury cases to a jury verdict. In order
to be Board Certified, Mr. Willis had to pass strict testing and qualification
requirements to demonstrate his knowledge of the law of evidence, procedure and
other areas of substantive law in the trial of civil cases. Less than 2% of all
Texas attorneys have earned this important certification in Personal Injury
Trial Law.
In 1997,
Mr. Willis was involved in one of the nation's first Firestone ATX Radial Tread
/ Belt Separation and Ford
Explorer rollover cases which occurred in Texas. A products liability lawsuit
was filed in 1998 against Ford and Firestone due to the Ford Explorer going out
of control and rolling after the back left Firestone ATX radial tire's tread
came off. After a long battle with Ford and Firestone a very significant
confidential settlement was reached by all parties.On July 17, 2001 Mr. Willis
was recognized as one of a very select group of products liability attorneys in
the nation and was awarded the prestigious Steven J. Sharp Public
Service Award for his contributions in investigating and gathering
evidence pertaining to tire belt separation and vehicle rollovers in Firestone
Tire and Ford Explorer Cases. The efforts by these selected attorneys and others
helped lead to the largest recall in U.S. history. This award was presented to
Mr. Willis by the president of the American Trial Lawyers Association.

Throughout his 20+ year legal

on more than just a few occasions. A few notable cases that helped make a
difference:
� In 1993
Willis and co-counsel R.Hopkins successfully represented the mother of a young
girl found at the bottom of a crowded wave pool. She survived, but suffered
anoxic brain damage.Willis sued not only the pool owner, but the wavepool
designer, builder and equipment company. This case help raise an awareness in the entire water park
industry that most wave pools have a design safety flaw. This litigation put the
top water park safety consultants on notice of the defect and this helped to set
in motion a new standard to wave pool design in the future.
� In
1992, Willis was asked another Texas Lawyer to be co-counsel in a tire explosion
case that involved a can of aerosol tire fixer.The client had been blinded in
both eyes when tire he was working on exploded. After about 12 months of
litigation the nation's largest manufacturer of fix a flat type of tire sealants
stopped the manufacturer and sale of its butane filled tire sealant and switched
to a non-explosion formula.
� In
1997, Mr. Willis was involved in one of the nation's first Firestone ATX Radial

old girl was rendered permanently brain damaged as a result lack of a child
proof cap on a bottle of Theophylline.The Pharmacist failed to re-package the
prescription of asthma medication into a childproof container. After 10 months
of legal maneuvers and depositions, one of the largest single plaintiff
settlements in US History was reached with a pharmacy, drug manufacturer and
pharmacist. Not only did this confidential out of court settlement make a huge
difference in the quality of life and medical care for this child and her
parents, the litigation also resulted in major internal changes as to child
proof packaging procedures at this Multi-Billion dollar company.
