Port Lavaca Man dies From Hydrofluoride Gas Inhalation at Alcoa Plant Accident in Port Comfort.

A Texas chemical plant worker died after inhaling hydrogen fluoride gas while working in the chemical department of an Alcoa plant in Point Comfort,Texas.

Alcoa Plant officials identified the man Wednesday as John Dorton, 37, of Port Lavaca, Texas. Dorton came in contact with the gas Tuesday while working in the area of the plant that makes , which is used in the production of aluminum, according to a news release.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the exposure happened at 2 p.m. Tuesday as Dorton worked near a valve. Dorton was died seven hours later at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The area of the Alcoa Plant where the accident happened is currently shut down during the investigation into his death.
