Your family may be in danger because a big corporation, the Monsanto Company, has chosen profits over your safety. Its weed- and grass-killer called Roundup has a herbicide which can cause cancer. But victims can fight back with Roundup cancer lawsuits.

Exposure to Cancer-Causing Herbicide

Exposure to the cancer-causing herbicide can happen to many people in many different walks of life. Which people are most threatened by exposure to Roundup’s carcinogenic weed- and grass-killer?

Certainly, agricultural and farm workers may suffer the greatest exposure, both in terms of the amounts of Monsanto’s Roundup in their exposure and in terms of the sustained periods of time in which they are exposed. The longer the exposure and the greater the amount, the higher the risk of getting a Roundup cancer.

Other persons who also could be at risk due to heavy and/or prolonged exposure to Roundup products include:

  • Nursery workers
  • Groundskeepers
  • Horticulturists
  • Gardeners
  • Gardening hobbyists
  • Landscapers
  • Garden center workers

Research Cites Deadly Glyphosate

These people and perhaps others are being threatened because Roundup products’ herbicide is glyphosate, a chemical compound which can kill — and not just insects.

Glyphosate is considered a carcinogen, which means it can cause cancer in human beings. But despite this, glyphosate is the active ingredient of Roundup products sold widely across the United States by the St. Louis, Mo.-based Monsanto Company.

Words of warning have come from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, or IARC. It is the cancer-research arm of the World Health Organization, or WHO.

In a July, 2015 report, the IARC described glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic” to humans, meaning the herbicide probably can cause cancer to persons exposed to it.

The IARC noted two case-control studies in Sweden and a pair of sizable case-control studies in the United States and Canada of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, or NHL. The agency said these studies revealed statistically significant greater risks of NHL associated with exposure to glyphosate.

In other words, Roundup exposure could lead to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Defined

As for what is the definition of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, it is a cancer which begins in cells known as lymphocytes. These are a part of the immune system of human beings.

The American Cancer Society says lymphocytes are located in the lymph nodes and other lymphoid tissues, such as the spleen as well as bone marrow.

Named after the physician who first cited it, Dr. Thomas Hodgkin, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, or NHL, may include such conditions as:

  • Lymphocytic lymphoma
  • Hairy-cell leukemia
  • Multiple myeloma
  • B-cell lymphoma
  • Types of Lymphomas

There are several principal types or kinds of lymphomas, according to the American Cancer Society. These include:

  • Hodgkin lymphoma, which also is called Hodgkin’s disease, Hodgkin disease or Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which in addition is called simply lymphoma or perhaps Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

These types of lymphomas can spread and react to treatment in different ways, according to the American Cancer Society. That depends in part on if the lymphoma cancer is advanced when it is first discovered. Upon initial diagnosis, a cancer may be “indolent” (or low-grade) or, worse, “aggressive” (or high-grade).

Other Potential Roundup Side Effects

Additional possible side effects from Roundup products include other cancers which can be caused by active ingredient glyphosate. These cancers may include:

  • B-Cell Lymphoma
  • Follicular Lymphoma
  • Additional lymphatic cancers

Millions of Pounds of Roundup

Such cancers pose a threat in part because millions of pounds of Roundup featuring glyphosate are sprayed on crops in the United States each year. Such crops include soybeans, sugar beets and corn.

Indeed, usage of agricultural-grade Roundup has risen ever since Monsanto first introduced Roundup Ready in the 1990s. Indeed, in just one year, 2012, over 280 million pounds of glyphosate were sprayed onto crops in America.

Today, Roundup is the most heavily used herbicide in the world.
