Mr. Willis has the distinction of being a Board Certified Personal Injury Trial Lawyer, certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1988. Less than 2% of all Texas attorneys have earned this important certification in Personal Injury Trial Law. This legal certification by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization identifies an attorney who has been recognized as having extensive knowledge and actual experience trying a prescribed number of personal injury cases to a jury verdict. In order to be Board Certified, Mr. Willis had to pass strict testing and qualification requirements to demonstrate his knowledge of the law of evidence, procedure and other areas of substantive law in the trial of civil cases.
Throughout his legal career, Mr. Willis has been personally compelled to force manufacturers to be accountable for their negligent acts and for the sale of dangerous products that kill and maim the consumers in the United States. Mr. Willis has made the headlines on more than just a few occasions. A few notable cases that helped make a difference:
In 1992, Mr. Willis filed a personal injury lawsuit on a tire explosion case that involved a can of aerosol tire fixer. The client had been blinded in both eyes when the tire he was working on exploded. After approximately 12 months of litigation the nation’s largest manufacturer of fix a flat type of tire sealants stopped the manufacturer and sale of its butane filled tire sealant and switched to a safer formula.
In 1993, Mr. Willis and co-counsel R. Hopkins successfully represented the mother of a young girl found at the bottom of a crowded wave pool. She survived, but suffered anoxic brain damage. Willis sued not only the pool owner, but the wavepool designer, builder and equipment company. This case help raise an awareness in the entire water park industry that most wave pools have a design safety flaw. This litigation put the top water park safety consultants on notice of the defect and this helped to set in motion a new standard to wave pool design in the future.
In 1997, Mr. Willis was involved in one of the nation’s first Firestone ATX radial tread/belt separation and Ford Explorer rollover cases which occurred in Texas. A products liability lawsuit was filed in 1998 against Ford and Firestone due to the Ford Explorer going out of control and rolling after the back left Firestone ATX radial tire’s tread came off. After a long battle with Ford and Firestone a very significant confidential settlement was reached by all parties. On July 17, 2001 Mr. Willis was recognized as one of a very select group of products liability attorneys in the nation and was awarded the prestigious Steven J. Sharp Public Service Award for his contributions in investigating and gathering evidence pertaining to tire belt separation and vehicle rollovers in Firestone tire and Ford Explorer cases. The efforts by these selected attorneys and others helped lead to the largest recall in U.S. history. This award was presented to Mr. Willis by the president of the American Trial Lawyers Association.
In 1999, two Texas attorneys requested Mr Willis to handle a case in which a 5 year old girl was rendered permanently brain damaged as a result lack of a child proof cap on a bottle of Theophylline. The Pharmacist failed to re-package the prescription of asthma medication into a childproof container. After 10 months of legal maneuvers and depositions, one of the largest single plaintiff settlements in U.S. History was reached with a pharmacy, drug manufacturer and pharmacist. Not only did this confidential out-of-court settlement make a huge difference in the quality of life and medical care for this child and her parents, but the litigation also resulted in major internal changes as to child proof packaging procedures at this multi-billion dollar company.

“My firm is committed to representing individuals and families who have been the victims of a wrongful death or serious personal injury. Although monetary compensation cannot heal the emotional and physical scars left as the result of a serious accident, it can help in many cases to relieve much of the economic stress and hardship associated with the injury or loss of a loved one. Many times it is the only means of support and future security for the injured individual and their family. Litigation may not bring back a loved one, or heal a serious injury, but it may serve to help prevent others from having to endure the same loss.”
The selection of a lawyer should be based to a great extent on the proven track record of that lawyer and the team of attorneys and experts he assembles to handle your case. Although no one can guarantee the results or final recovery on any particular case or fact scenario, we do believe that past performance is a strong indicator of the level of commitment and solid work ethic that will be brought to bear on serious and complex litigation in the future.
In most instances, the new client enters into a contingency fee contract with the Willis Law Firm. This means that only upon successfully securing an award or settlement for our client does the Willis Law Firm receive its fee and expenses. In essence, "There is no fee or expenses charged for our services if there is no recovery to you." In some cases, Mr. Willis will involve additional Board Certified Personal Injury Trial Lawyers and others as co-counsel to assist in specific cases, especially in cases where other firms’ expertise in a particular matter strengthens and accelerates the case through the legal system. This assembling of a team of lawyers for our client does not increase fees to the client "not one red cent." With this team effort, the client’s case is often resolved in a shorter period of time and with more substantial settlements and trial verdicts for the client.
